GRAPHITE AND ACRYLIC ON WATERCOLOR PAPER

ART AND THE VIEWER

Rough reasoning: There are three elements - the diamond, the hand, the baby. The diamond is art. It's an art object, a vessel for artistic meaning, you get it. It's independent from the rest. The hand is of a grown up, and it gestures a question. The hand is an expression of how adults communicate with art - they employ their intellect in order to understand. The baby is visibly intrigued by the diamond - it has feelings. The baby doesn't intellectualize, it experiences through emotion. So all of this is a metaphor for the experience one has with art - he either thinks about it (with all of the benefits and shortcomings), or he feels about it ( with all of the benefits and shortcomings).

August dragon

Meadows, a stream, a blue flower pops in the mouth of a vicious wild cat, a dragon breather, a blue horse gallops in the belly of a yellow beast.

Cotton Candy flow

A river of caramel and strawberry syrup flows curvaceously around its cotton candy islands. Grape fumes flow above, a lemon drop shines over everything.

the choice

Do you want to be up in the clouds, with the stars, but alone, or would you rather be down in the dirt, but with another?

The shift

The release after buildup. Some intense release that is.

COLORED PENCIL ON BLACK PAPER

Post Supper

This is one of my favorites - it's has no social commentary, and is deep as much as the cool pond that this guy is looking in for a snack.

the hero's journey

Joseph Campbell wrote ' The Hero's Journey'. In his book, he looks into humanity's greatest stories, and finds out that they all have the same basic framework, and that the protagonist in each of them walks the same path as the others. Campbell distills that path and represents it as a circle. This is the bottom of that circle, it shows the hardships of the journey. It shows the moment of absolute sharpness, the point of the spear. Right before death, or right after rebirth, maybe both.
